Groom

Her Version

Early in our relationship, Kevin had said he would probably propose to me in Paris. I thought he was just saying that to just sound impressive. But as it turns out, he wasn’t kidding!

I had 3 rules:

  1. Do not put the ring in my food/drink. I would like to enjoy my food without the fear of potentially biting down onto a piece of jewelry, or potentially swallowing it. Also, I don’t think it’s hygienic.

  2. I did not want the proposal to happen in public. Not that I would have said no, but my vision of a proposal is that it’s an intimate moment between two people. The world doesn’t need to see or be a part of it. Plus, it puts a lot of pressure on the other person to say yes in front of a bunch of people.

  3. I did not want the proposal to happen in front of/by the Eiffel Tower. Too cliche.

I was packing for our trip, and Kevin went to a friend’s house. I was putting some stuff away in the closet, and when I looked down, I saw a rectangular shaped thing in one of his shoes. I thought it was a deodorizer, so, closed the door, and continued packing. Then I thought, there’s no way that could be the engagement ring box. So I opened the door again, and tried to look closer at the box. It looked like cardboard, so I wasn’t convinced it was the engagement ring.

I told Kevin I wanted to go to the Louvre and take some pictures on a day it was closed, because there’d be no one there. So we go and take pictures. I was looking down to put something away in my bag, and when I looked up, I saw the box on my shoulder. We finished taking pictures, and got ready to leave. I guess there was a couple somewhere in the area who probably saw things unfold, and she came running over and asked me to take pictures of her and her partner. Afterwards, she was quite insistent on taking photos for us, which was a kind gesture (see photo to the right).

Huzzah.

His Version

She gave me 3 rules.

Not in public (she hates crowds).

Not in food/drink (choking hazard, also gross).

Not by the Eiffel Tower (Too cliché).

Originally, I wanted to propose to her on a floating restaurant on the River Seine, but she did not want to get on the boat. Well damn, there goes all of my plans.

On the third day, she wanted to go take early morning pictures at the Louvre.

I saw an opportunity, and took it. She said yes. Huzzah.
